Volunteer Opportunities

Members may choose to what extent they wish to be involved in Koinonia. Member families are entitled to various services of Koinonia, including but not limited to: classes, newsletters, field trips, family functions, and information about home education helps and organizations. These and other services are open only to member families.

Koinonia is dependent on volunteers in order to offer many wonderful services such as a science fair, fine arts program, field day, Christmas craft workshop, Graduation Ceremonies, etc.  Along with these programs Koinonia needs volunteers for the less than glamorous jobs of setting up rooms before classes start on Mondays, cleaning up the building when classes are finished at the end of the day, monitoring study hall, setting up for lunch and tearing down after lunch, etc.  If you are able to assist Koinonia in any way, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator.  Parents working with children or in contact with children or students at Koinonia will be required to submit information for a criminal background check.

Home School Partnership Program

The Home School Partnership program  is made available to parents of home schooled children by select school districts in conjunction with the State of Michigan and provides financial assistance in the form of rebates on tuition paid for select classes at Koinonia or other educational providers.

There is no requirement to go to the school to take advantage of this program. Classes can be done on-line, by email or phone and are free. Non-core classes (art, gym, music, drama, etc.) are eligible and may vary depending on which school district you choose to utilize. Please visit the districts websites for specific requirements and expectations to determine if this program is right for you.

While Koinonia is not part of any State or public program because of our Non-Profit status, parents are free to utilize this option. The following guidelines have been set up in order to help you in your decision to use Home School Partnerships while attending Koinonia Home School.

The following schools offer this benefit to Koinonia families-

• Niles Community Schools   • Hamilton Community Schools   • Jenison Public Schools
